Hari Raya Haji 2024

Home / Tickets / Update*

In 2024, Hari Raya Haji falls on Thursday 29th June. Hari Raya Haji marks the end of the annual Haj, the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca that Muslims want and need to undertake at least once in their lives. Traditionally, Hari Raya Haji is commemorated by feasting on meat with family, friends and the needy as a special act of charity.

Hari Raya Haji is the great equalizer, since many Muslims are able to enjoy the unusual luxury of eating a full-on meal during these happy days.

In contemporary times, Muslims dress up in new or special clothes, visit friends and relatives, hold gatherings and festivities as well as give small packets of money to children.

Hari Raya Haji is a joyous time full of festive celebrations. As such, if you're planning a getaway trip during Hari Raya Haji 2024, we highly recommend booking your hotel accommodation and your ferry ahead of Hari Raya Haji, particularly, since June and July tend to be the busiest months of the year in the region. The reason for this is that this is the time of the school Summer holidays in Europe and many other parts of the world.

As Hari Raya Haji merges with this heavy-traffic season in 2024, we expect demand for hotel rooms and ferry tickets to be particularly high for this year's Hari Raya Haji period.

In addition, since Hari Raya Haji is the time for Malay families to celebrate together, some of the family-run hostels and chalets may be closed for a week or more during Hari Raya Haji, which, by extension, lowers the available supply of hotel rooms, chalets and bungalows even further.

All in all, it would make a lot of sense to secure your hotel room and your ferry seats early on for the 2024 Hari Raya Haji Holidays.

Lastly, FYI, the number of hotel rooms and cottages available has increased markedly the past few years, the result of brisk development since the end of Covid. The ferries, however, have lagged behind in terms of getting visitors to these rooms and cottages. This is not for a lack of wanting, but frequently it's the result of unfavorable tides, along with maritime, as well as environmental laws applicable around our coastlines.

In light of this, we advise travelers ensure ferry tickets are booked in advance, especially during public holidays and weekends. Nothing is worse that having a hotel room booking, but no ferry ticket to get to your room.
