Feedback from an actual X Rector Minsu guest

Home / Tickets / Update* / Blog

We decided to stay at X Rector Minsu just before the monsoon season started. X Rector Minsu is a new addition to Tioman's resort repertoire and it shows, because everything about X Rector Minsu is brand spanking new.

X Rector Minsu is a 4-star resort, which we appreciated, because there are quite a few accommodations in Tioman that are a single star of even less. This is fine of course, if you're of the backpacker persuasion, or just a budget traveler. For this trip, however, we were keen to live it up a little.

And to be frank, X Rector Minsu is ideal for a trip with a wee bit of swank.

For starters, our X Rector Minsu room faced the sea, providing a panorama which we loved. What's not to like about a sparkling crystal-clear sea right at the front of your cottage? In fact, Genting is such a picturesque setting to begin with, low-key, with a lovely slow pace to boot, just perfect to de-stress and re-charge the old batteries if you will.

But the X Rector Minsu garden too, was a welcome sight for sore eyes, particularly when in bloom, which we were lucky to witness. Best of all, the greenery also keeps things nice and cool during the hot days that Tioman enjoys.

Of course, the airconditioning in our room also kept us fresh and fruity. And X Rector Minsu features a bar too, so there's no shortage of colourful beverages within reach.

Now, speaking of enjoying a tipple, we do recommend not over-indulging in alcoholic drinks, as it appeared, to us at least, that their effect seemed to be a little more pronounced, probably the result of the tropical temperatures. We tried to stay hydrated by bringing our trusted water bottles everywhere we went. This helped.

If you're concerned that your trip to Tioman means having to eat only local food, don't; X Rector Minsu offers both Asian and English dishes. We partook of both and were impressed. That said, we also tried a few other eateries peppered here and there in the Genting area. Let's put it this way: The standard of the makan in this neck of the woods was excellent. Michelin stars please :)

Special mention to the BBQ delights by the way, because the nights we opted for BBQ were awesome, simply off the chart, especially the seafood. An absolute must-try.

Fret not about any gaining of pounds, by the by, because there's plenty if things to do at X Rector Minsu. And as it happens, X Rector Minsu's staff was always willing and able to assist us when we were looking to explore the area or try something new to do.

Apart from the beach, which incidentally, was magnificent, there's snorkeling on offer, as well as hiking and jungle-trekking. This was quite an experience, because the Tioman jungle is as dense and as original as you're ever likely to encounter. We felt like we'd ventured into a vintage Tarzan movie!

Now, if you've always wanted to go diving, you can get your Open Water SCUBA permit here. In fact, as you'll find out, Tioman is just about the most suitable place to dive in the entire area. And best of all, the Open Water course only takes 4 days to complete.

The other pretty specialized activity I spotted was blue-water angling. Unfortunately, we ran out of time, so skipped this, but I heard that they take you out quite a ways offshore, so a deep-sea angling excursion could end up being quite the adventure. We decided to go for it during our next Tioman getaway.

So, bottom line, if you're looking forward to a quality break on an idyllic far-away island, and finding a bit of Zen in a tranquil tropical experience, both outdoors and indoors (courtesy of the room's sound-proofing), but want to go out and about too, then X Rector Minsu is the place to be.

Tip: We booked X Rector Minsu through Booking.com. Also, try the Health & Wellness Facilities at X Rector Minsu. We came away utterly revitalized after just a few hours of pampering. Lastly, just so you know, X Rector Minsu premises offers a laundry place, a souvenir shop, as well as baggage storage. Best of all, people here spoke fluent English, excellent.

Pro Tip: Not sure which jetty to select in the booking form? You can choose any of the jetties in the form, because the ferry typically (though there's the occasional exception) goes to each of the main jetties listed.
