A group of my friends and I had left our Tioman booking till way too late, but luckily Tropical Coral Inn had 2 rooms available. Perfect for us, so we quickly snapped them up.
Mind you, we weren't sure what to expect from a place that still had rooms when every other resort in Tioman was fully booked, but in hindsight, it's safe to say that Tropical Coral Inn is a little gem.
Tropical Coral Inn is a budget hostel, so don't be expecting anything grandiose or majestic. Tropical Coral Inn is pretty basic and it's pretty cheap. But if you're good with basic and cheap, then give Tropical Coral Inn a go. You won't be disappointed.
Anyways, believe you me, most of your days in Tioman will be spent outside somewhere. So as long as you're dry at night and you have a decent bed to sleep in, you're good to go with Tropical Coral Inn.
Welcome to Tropical Coral Inn
Now, modest resort notwithstanding, Tropical Coral Inn still has a surprising number of little extras that makes your stay that much more comfy. Examples? Well, our room came provided with aircon and a fan, a separate bathroom, containing a toilet and a hot-water (and cold-water) shower.
Two features we were raving about at the time were the fact that our rooms were linked with a common door and the verandah. I can see how a common door is great for families especially. It certainly was fun for us. And the verandah, well, let's just say that we got our money's worth; stoning on the verandah with mates, whilst soaking up the tranquil laid-back island atmosphere and Tropical Coral Inn's awesome panoramas was simply the bomb. Very special indeed.

Actually, our chalets were quite cute, particularly their cheerfully painted interiors. Each of Tropical Coral Inn's wooden chalets are built along traditional designs. They're lined up in garden-type surroundings, pretty much parallel to the beach, whilst a dense green jungle completely covers the hillside at back. It's this idyllic setting that gives Tropical Coral Inn its lazy hang-loose ambience. Wonderful. By the way, the fact that Tropical Coral Inn is said to be eco-friendly made staying here even more appealing to us. Well done to Tropical Coral Inn.
If you're the kind that finds it impossible to sit still whilst on a holiday, then worry not, because there are plenty of activities to be done at and around Tropical Coral Inn. The following were all available when we were there, so just ask and likely you shall receive: snorkeling,
scuba-diving, canoeing, jungle trekking, fishing trips, island-hopping and karaoke.
Food-wise, we had our meals from the seafood (halal) restaurant on the sea-facing open deck. How blissful is that? But just for variation, we also tried some of the other eateries in the village of Genting.
Oh, FYI, whilst in Genting proper, swing by the souvenir shop there, because we found they carry quite a few fun gift items for back home. (Please don't buy any of the sea shells or ornamental dried puffer fish and sea horses that are on display. Apart from propagating their capture and trade, you may also be slapped with a hefty fine when returning back home.)

Ironically, Tropical Coral Inn isn't easy to book, because there are quite a few numbers floating around that seem to take turns in being reachable. If you want to give Tropical Coral Inn a call, try this order: +60 94 19 7041, +60 77 321316, +60 94 197041, +60 89 782766. Alternatively, you can try booking your room on Agoda. Just so you know, Tropical Coral Inn is a bit of a walk from the ferry jetty. Oh, if you need one, an extra mattress is available from the front desk. Lastly, go see the waterfall - it's very cool.
[Edit: Rumours are circulating that Tropical Coral Inn was shut down. However, we're still awaiting official confirmation.]
