Wi-fi and Internet in Tioman

In the old days, internet was hard to come by in Tioman. Each village had just one single cybercafe, dial-up naturally, and since the only connection to the mainland was by satellite, download speeds were mind-numbing and upload speeds were positively glacial.

The more exclusive resorts fared slightly better, but charged an arm and a leg for the privilege of using their connection and hardware, probably because Internet ISP's still ruled supreme back then. However, high charges notwithstanding, even simply browsing the net was painfully slow.


Some Tioman resorts offer free Wi-Fi areas

What a difference a few years make! Most, if not all Tioman hotels, offer Wi-Fi now, and speeds pretty much everywhere are very respectable, more than enough to regularly keep in touch with family and friends back home through your blog, Twitter or Facebook timeline. Even uploading pictures and videos is quite feasible these days.
