Puteri Pacific Hotel in Johor Bahru has had its day in the sun, that much is clear. It's not a new hotel and partly as a result of this, it lacks the prestige of most of the more recent additions in the region. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing.
In fact, if you have no objection to staying in a hotel from a somewhat dated era and you appreciate the lower room rates, then Putri pacific is a great choince. As it happens, upgrades and modernizations notwithstanding, the atmosphere inside the hallways and lobby is still somewhat old-school, so if you're into colonial nostalgia, then this hotel is for you, because Puteri Pacific has it. Along with plenty of character.

However, for those who prefer modern styles, take note, because Puteri Pacific more than makes up for its lack of contemporary look-and-feel by its central location; it's very close to City Square Mall and just a hop away from the Malaysia-Singapore Causeway. Puteri Pacific's solid service offered all around and its price/quality ratio are also quite appealing.

Our room was clean and spacious. The bathroom was fine, the rain shower utterly divine. And there were plenty of complimentary toiletries, which was a nice gesture. The TV was a large flatscreen. The bed was a queen-size and sleep quality was above par.
Wi-fi in the room is offered free of charge and the up/download speeds are good enough. We've since heard that some hotels in JB offer free wi-fi in their lobby only and not in their rooms, so this free wi-fi in the room by Pacific Puteri is a nice bonus.

That being said, at the time of our stay in Puteri Pacific, we were told there were upgraded rooms and rooms that haven't been upgraded yet. In light of this, we made it a point to request for an upgraded room. Of course by now all of Puteri Pacific rooms may have been upgraded.
We also enjoyed a spa treatment on the Puteri Pacific premises and this was one of the better ones we've had. For one thing, the staff didn't give us the relentless up-size hard sell and the massage itself was very enjoyable and priced about right.
We didn't eat at the Puteri Pacific itself, because there are many nice eateries around the hotel grounds that offer a real taste of the local "makan". We did check out the hotel's buffet breakfast, but this was somewhat underwhelming and seemed a bit pricey.
Still, overall, Puteri Pacific is a very decent place at a
very decent price.
Tip: Puteri Pacific Hotel is currently undergoing a major renovation. Some rooms have been completed and some are still awaiting their turn. When you make your booking, request for a renovated room. These are better. Also, make sure you ask for a non-smoking room, as they don't have a lingering tobacco smell, which some of the smoking rooms do.
