Mersing or Tanjung Gemok?

Home / Tickets / Update* / Blog

Not sure whether you should use the ferry terminal at Mersing or Tanjung Gemok when going on your Tioman trip? Let us shed some light on the pros and cons of each.

Mersing

Although the ferry schedule from Mersing is sometimes affected by the tidal range, this is usually managed well, typically, allowing travelers to plan accordingly. Bluewater Express, the ferry company, is experienced in adjusting schedules and the staff tends to go to great lengths to ensure a smooth crossing. Critically, Mersing's long-standing reputation as Tioman's main gateway means at least a few crossings per day, giving travelers decent flexibility in choosing an ideal departure or arrival time.

Tanjung Gemok

While Tanjung Gemok offers a somewhat more predictable ferry schedule, Mersing remains the preferred departure point for most travelers heading to Tioman. Why? Well, for starters, Mersing's closer proximity to Singapore makes it the more convenient option for those coming from this neck of the woods. Additionally, Mersing town has way more accommodation, dining, and shopping options than Tanjung Gemok, making it ideal for those who want to explore, shop and enjoy the local makan, as well as those who need to stay overnight before their ferry journey.
