Please do not to buy any dried fish that are on sale for decorative purposes, such as the dries puffer fish offered here and there, or, for that matter, any sea shells, or any coral-related souvenirs from any of the vendors that still sell these. The rule of thumb is that anything that once was alive is illegal to bring with you.

This includes not just fish, shells and corals, but scorpions, spiders and snakes too, like the ones offered in keychains or bottled alcohol.

In fact, more and more countries now have legislation in place that protects organisms from being taken from their original habitat, dead or alive. Even hollow shells found on the beach are best not collected and brought home. Customs' departments worldwide are issuing returning travelers fines upon discovering these items in their luggage, including even fragments of shells or coral that were found lying on a beach.
