My fiancee and I were keen to cut ourselves off from the rest of the world for a week or so. Our mission was to land on a desert island and live the life of castaways. Swiss Family Robinson was our ideal. In hindsight, we can honestly say that, whilst perhaps not completely a desert island, thanks to Tioman, and in particular, Mizani's Place, it's mission accomplished.

Welcome to Mizani's Place
Mizani's Place is located on the southern part of breathtaking Juara Beach. Mizani's Place has just half a dozen basic chalets, all a little on the dilapidated side, but all clean and altogether more than enough for a castaway wannabe couple like us. In fact, if anything, Mizani's Place's huts' primitive look just added to the whole castaway atmosphere we were aiming to experience.

Book your Mizani's Place room now
Of course, that doesn't mean that there shouldn't be any creature comforts at all :) Our Mizani's Place room came with a fan, an attached bathroom with toilet and a cold-water shower. There was a also a mosquito net, which is always a good idea in a tropical island hostel. Best of all, the room came with a verandah. As you can imagine, we got plenty of mileage out of that especially.
Mizani's Place is an absolutely ideal place to chill. Juara Beach stretches far and wide and has an absolutely idyllic feel to it, with palm trees fringing the sand and the emerald green jungle backdrop rounding off the perfect panorama. Best of all, our hut actually faced the sea, so this stunning shot is the last thing you see before you go to sleep and the first thing you see when you wake up. Simply divine.
Mizani's Place is owned by "Yan", who's a bit of a wannabe-castaway himself. But castaway aspirations notwithstanding, Yan knows how to create a unique home type mood. He's friendly and easy-going, which explains the hospitable ambience at Mizani's Place.
By the way, Mizani's Place offers a cafe that serves both local and western food, as well as bottled water and soft drinks. So Mizani's Place is actually pretty self-supportive. However, if you're keen to expand your culinary horizon, you can try some of the other eateries in Juara.
So yes, we loved our little Juara hideaway. Mizani's Place fulfilled all our wishes. Staying at Mizani's Place was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We recommend it.
Tip:
Mizani's Place isn't the easiest hostel to book, because it appears only regulars can place an advance booking. That said, you can see if you can find Mizani's Place on Agoda, but if not then call +60 9 419 3157. Incidentally, as a side note, Lonely Planet's authors have stayed at Mizani's Place and selected it as one of Pulau Tioman's "recommended accommodations". No mean feat.
[Edit: Mizani's Place has since ceded to Manana Resort, which now, in turn, has moved to Borneo.]
