We stayed at Manana Resort for almost a week and loved every minute of it. Manana Resort has just 4 tiny little beach chalets, but this results in a real friendly feel and makes staying here ever so appealing, particurarly with the crystal-clear sea water so close to each of the chalets and the lush jungle just behind.
It has an almost movie-set look, it's that breathtaking.
The other way I've heard Manana Resort been described is that it is almost like a miniature Malay village. Modest, sweet and authentic.
The ambience is laid-back and the pace utterly slow, in part due to the idyllic tranquillity that reigns supreme in this neck of Tioman, i.e. Juara Beach.
Manana, which actually should be spelled
maana is Spanish for tomorrow. And the owner told us that Manana Resort is called this, because before they were a resort, they found that a lot of visitors to the area would repeatedly postpone their return home to "tomorrow". They just couldn't bear taking their leave.
I can understand why; Manana Resort is a simply magical place, both during the day and at night.
Speaking of night, at night, the locals put on a spectacular fire show on the beach, juggling hand-made torches, fire-twirling and even fire-eating. It was great fun and spectacular to watch.
Staying at Manana Resort was blissful to say the least. I don't know how long the hostel will remain here, however, as I heard that there is talk of leaving Tioman in the not too distant future.
If you want to stay at Manana Resort, I recommend that you don't wait too long. I'm not sure if Manana Resort can be found online, but if they have, then the fastest way to book them is by
Agoda.
In fact, I couldn't find the Tioman Manana Resort phone number, so it looks like Agoda is the only way to book them.
[Edit: Manana Resort in Tioman has upped and left. They can now be found in Borneo.]
