Johan's House is a quaint but certainly welcoming family-run budget chalet cluster situated at the northern section of Air Batang Village, also known as ABC.
Actually, we're regulars at Johan's House for a number of reason, not least of which the simply tranquil surroundings that skirt our chalet.
You can opt for a chalet by the garden or the beach. Note that this stretch of beach is quite rugged for the rocks that are strewn here and there. Yet, despite the rocks, this stretch of beach is still great for snorkeling.
Welcome to Johan's House,
a Tioman snorkeling paradise
We stayed in the very comfortable Family Room this time, which at just 150 Ringgit is, given that it houses 4 guests and also offers full air-conditioning, is quite a steal.
Mind you, if you're a hard-core budget traveler, then note that you can get yourself a good night's sleep in a Johan's House dorm for a rock-bottom 15 Ringgit per night. That has to be the lowest price for an overnight stay in Tioman. (Edit: This may have gone up by now of course).
Incidentally, the rooms at Johan's House are invariably clean, so no worries there. But it may be worth-while to note that some of the chalets are built on a hill that, fantastic panoramas notwithstanding, may prove a bit of a challenge for older travelers.
So when you're booking your Johan's House chalet and you prefer a walk-in room, let Johan's House know beforehand.

The other thing that has us coming back to Johan's House again and again is the way they'll organize a whole range of activities such as snorkeling, fishing and jungle trekking trips for their guests. Just drop off your request at the reception and it will be arranged.
Naturally, Tioman being snorkeling heaven, we always get at least a few snorkel outings in, which always includes Pulau Tulai a.k.a. Coral Island and Pulau Renggis.
Both these excellent snorkel locations are just a short boat ride away.
Book your Johan's House room and get a taste of life as a castaway in paradise.
We also like to go on a jungle trek when we're in Tioman, especially the one that offers a visit to one of Tioman's waterfalls. If you're thinking of going on a jungle trek, ask if Rafflesia is in bloom. This flower is one of the largest and rarest in the world and actually grows in Tioman! It's a sight to behold.
If you like to go fishing, then you'll be happy to note that Johan's House provides all the gear required for a fishing trip, including a small boat.
Whenever we go, the fishing is both exciting and fun. You won't catch any world-records, but you'll likely be taking home a few pan-sized fish.
Tip:
Johan's House is actually a misnomer, because after the resort went through a major refurbishment upgrade, it was re-branded Johan's Resort. So Google Johan's Resort rather than Johan's House if you're on a fact-gathering mission. Or just click here if you're keen to book a resort in Tioman with Agoda's Lowest Price Guarantee. Should you want to cancel later, no worries, because cancelling is free of charge.
