NOTE: Peak season is !

If you want a real taste of what village life, or "kampung" life, was like in the olden days in Malaysia, then nothing beats the homestay experience. Whilst on a Tioman homestay holiday, you'll not only marvel at the much more languid passing of time, and the way life is absorbed more deliberately than in the industrialized world, but you'll also be amazed at the hospitability and kindness of your hosts and the rustic environment of your homestay.

Depending on the location of the Tioman homestay you go, you can expect the full spectrum of village life. This can include the quite elaborate preparation of the family meals, from the gathering and washing of the rice and vegetables to the actually cooking. A one-of-a-kind experience.

In other regions of Malaysia, you may also be invited to assist in harvesting fruit, such as rambutan, coconuts or jackfruit. Another popular activity is the milking of rubber trees, a skill that goes back many years.

Once the work is done, you can indulge in some of the fun village activities, such as flying a kite, top-spinning or the traditional sport if sepak takraw, a kind of volleyball played with only the feet. Naturally, you're also free to explore the homestay surroundings or try your luck at fishing.

Later in the evenings, after meal time, the homestay may offer cultural dances, musical performances and perhaps even a mock-wedding.
