Vesak Day - 2025

Home / Tickets / Update* / Blog

Vesak Day, or as it's also known, Wesak Day or Buddha Purnima signifies Buddha's Birthday and is considered a major Buddhist festival. In fact, Vesak Day is celebrated by all Buddhists the world over.

Vesak day actually memorializes the birth, Nirvana, i.e. enlightenment, and subsequent Parinirvana, or passing, of the Lord Gautama Buddha on one day. Vesak Day is celebrated with considerable vigor involving colourful ceremonial rituals.

The actual date of Vesak Day date varies from year to year as it follows the Lunar calendar. As a result of the great diversity of the many Buddhist cultures throughout world, Vesak day is celebrated on different dates by different traditions.

Buddhists believe that performing good deeds, a.k.a. Dana, on Vesak Day will ensure positive karma and good merit will befall the practitioner of these good deeds.

Acts of altruism and generosity include blood donations and releasing of caged birds or crabs that were on the menu at seafood restaurants. Other acts of charity, such as donating money to the poor and needy are also common.

All of the above being said, typically, first and foremost, Vesak Day is a time of joy, peace and reflection for the vast majority of Buddhists.

In 2025, Vesak Day falls on May 19 for Singapore and Malaysia too.

Usually, the end of May is a great time to spend in Tioman, because the northeast monsoon will have come to an end by then. And this means that Tioman's weather will likely be fair and stable, which, in turn, will render the sea around Tioman calm and crystal-clear. Happy Vesak Day!
