Singapore's National Day is celebrated yearly on August 9. Singapore's National Day commemorates Singapore gaining its independence from Malaysia in 1965 after a short-lived merger.

Singapore National Day features a whole afternoon and evening of activities of a proudly patriotic nature. Examples of the activities are the National Day Parade and the address by the Prime Minister of Singapore, the National Day Rally.

Other Singapore National Day evergreens are a demonstration of Singapore's sky diving team, various choir performances, performances by school bands, as well as fun presentations that include a fair amount of audience participation.

Singapore National Day's mainstay is the National Day Parade of course. The parade includes members of the Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Police Force, Singapore Civil Defence Force, representatives of the People's Action Party, along with various labour unions' representatives and representatives of a select number of Singapore business entities. Uniformed students, such as the Scouts, Girl Guides and a number of Cadet Corps also make an appearance.

Singapore National Day ends with spectacular fireworks celebrations.
